So, the black man, tries to protect himself, he constantly reads situations, looks over his shoulder to keep himself safe, he looks after his family, particularly the constant assaults on the women in his life
I think this book is really great and I would definitely recommend. It’s multi-layered, gripping, well-paced and it made me both laugh and cry. It provides some interesting historical insights and it’s clear there’s been a lot of research and thought put into the structure and themes.
No-one warned me how much I would laugh throughout this book. It is laugh out loud funny with perfect comic timing, combining hilarious slapstick with a moving story about the trials of getting through teen life. Hats off to Alex Wheatle.
