About the Authors:

Orlaine McDonald comes with a rich background in Arts Education, having worked with young people in Pupil Referral Units and Youth Offending Units. She holds a Masters in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths, where she was shortlisted for the Pat Kavanagh Prize. Her debut novel unfolds the intertwined lives of three women living in the flat below Earl's on the Blossom View Estate:

- Livia has been running from her past for so long, she's almost convinced it won't catch up to her. Now, she's forced to confront the daughter she left behind.
Mickey is filled with rage at her mother who left her, her father who died, and the chaos of her own life. She's now left with no choice but to rely on the very person who abandoned her.
Summer is caught in the emotional turbulence of her new life, with a grandmother she finds odd and a mother who is always sad or distracted. As she seeks solace with new friends, questions arise about their intentions and the safety they promise. When the year draws to a close, the family of three will be forever changed.

Shani Akilah is a South London-based writer and screenwriter. She's also a book influencer, co-founder of the Nyah Network—a book club for Black women—and served as a literary judge for the Nota Bene Prize 2023. With a Masters in African Studies from Oxford University, Shani's debut work, "For Such a Time as This", is a compelling collection of stories about the people and moments that shape us:

- Meet Niah and her close-knit group of friends, navigating the highs and lows of life.
- Experience the thrill of new relationships and the pitfalls of online dating.
- Confront the shadows of racism in the workplace and the profound isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic. This beautifully crafted collection captures the essence of friendship, love, and resilience, offering a powerful glimpse into the lives of its characters.

Join us for a relaxed afternoon where Orlaine and Shani will discuss their journeys as debut authors, the themes in their books, and their experiences in the literary world. This event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with these talented writers, hear their stories, and be inspired by their unique perspectives.

You'll also have the chance to ask questions and engage in a meaningful dialogue with the authors. Whether you're an avid reader, an aspiring writer, or simply curious about their work, this event promises to be a delightful and insightful experience.

Come and support these emerging voices in literature at Jubilee Library. Secure your spot and be part of a conversation that celebrates storytelling, creativity, and the power of diverse narratives.

We look forward to seeing you there!
